I work primarily with wheel-thrown stoneware and rich matte glazes
to make pieces intended for daily use in the home. The pleasure
I receive from regularly using a well-made & beautiful pot
is especially satisfying.
Functional, wheel-thrown stoneware is still my first pottery love. The effort to create pieces that will bring
joy as they are used keeps me going back to my wheel. But after 30-plus years, there is more play in my pottery:
more play in the forms and the techniques & glazes, and more variation in the work from year to year.
I think less in terms of production than I used to. Glaze motifs suggest forms and forms give rise to new
glazes. It is a process of give and take that is always interesting and, I hope, keeps my work fresh.
My work is available at the ClayWays Gallery where
I have my throwing studio (5442 Burnet Road, Austin TX) and also at Buck
Pottery (1296
Gruene Road, Gruene TX). Also check out upcoming shows and events.
