In 1988 my husband and I and our 2-year-old son Anthony spent 6 months living in Winchester, Hampshire, England. I worked in Robert Goldsmith’s pottery three mornings a week.

The UK was a pot-lover’s delight: hand-made pottery is everywhere, from the cafeteria at Avesbury to the Crafts Council shop in the Victoria and Albert Museum; from fancy guild shops to boxes by the side of the road. Using a list provided by The Crafts Council, we spent most every weekend visiting different parts of the UK and visiting as many potters as possible. We purchased many items directly from the craftsperson, but several items that caught our fancy are from potters unknown.

Pictured above are a few of our favorites.
